It is hard to imagine that a baby born over 2000 years ago would continue to impact
our lives today. Whether you believe in the Christmas story from the Bible or
not, the birth of Jesus Christ has impacted our world.
As we prepare to say goodbye to 2012 AD and welcome 2013 AD we are reminded that even our calendar system is impacted by the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We have AD which is a Latin phrase “Anno Domini” which means “in the year of our Lord.” and we have BC which means Before Christ.
Many of our Public Holidays are holidays because of the life events of Jesus. Christmas Day is because we celebrate the birth of Jesus and Good Friday is a reminded of the Death of Jesus on the cross and Easter Sunday is a celebration of Jesus resurrection from the dead. These are two very popular holiday periods throughout our year which enables families to have a break from both work and school and often a weekend away.
When we actually stop and look at the impact that Jesus Christ has upon us today, we discover that there are many things that are often part of our lives that are here because of the birth of Jesus Christ. Many of our hospitals and welfare groups were started because of impact that Jesus Christ had upon individuals and groups. St John of God Hospital, St Vincent Hospital, UnitingCare, Salvation Army, Centacare, Anglicare, World Vision, Vinnies, etc.
Many of these groups are changing lives and making an amazing impact in our city. Even our legal system and morals are based upon the teachings of Jesus
Christ. After all, who decided it was wrong to murder a fellow human?
As we Celebrate Christmas this year 2012 AD may we be reminded of the ongoing impact of a baby born over 2000 years ago. Can I also encourage you to attend a local church this Christmas and hear more about the impact that Jesus Christ continues to have upon us today.
On behalf of everyone at the York St Church of Christ I trust you and your family have an impacting Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.
Blessings
Tim Clark
