TARGET 10:10 JULY UPDATE

Target 10 is a new initiative in Ballarat combining two events – the Target 10 dB (decibel) Community Hearing Awareness challenge and the Target 10 laps endurance running fundraiser – to promote good hearing health for Ballarat residents, whilst raising support for EARS Incorporated hearing clinic projects in developing countries.

Situated in the vicinity of the Ballarat Grammar Boatshed (Forest Street and Wendouree Parade), school-aged children and adults will be able to have a free hearing test in sound proof conditions. Meanwhile, Target 10 runners will be completing 10 laps of Lake Wendouree (60km) and raising money to deliver life-changing audiology services and training for those who can least afford it in poor countries like the Dominican Republic in Central America and Malawi in Africa.

And to celebrate, once the running and hearing testing is over, popular local covers band Black Cat will play at the Portico Restaurant, 203 Dana Street (near SMB), on the evening of Saturday 10th July from 8pm. The covercharge of $5 will go directly to EARS Inc supported projects. This will be a great way to complete the Target 10 event, celebrate the achievements of runners, the work of event volunteers and the support of the community.

Julia Gillard won’t bow to Christian vote

June 29, 2010
JULIA Gillard says she has great respect for religion, even though she is a non-believer.

I would not be asking our Prime Minister to bow to the Christian vote but to bow to Jesus Christ…

Policies and Political views aside, we need to be praying for our Government Leaders and this next stage in our nation’s future.

Welcome Sunday 27 June

Welcome to the York St Church of Christ. Whether you are a regular or a visitor we trust that you have a great time as you worship with us today.

Today we continue to look at one of our Core Values with the theme Compassion. Blake Moore will be speaking at all three services and stirring us as to compassion. As a church we are seeking to build a community that is compassionate towards one another. To be a church that demonstrates an attitude of compassion to the people of Ballarat and beyond. May we all be open to what God wants to say to us individually and as a church today?

Ephesians 4:32 (NIV) 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

This week Trace Valentine began Annual Leave and tomorrow Blake Moore begins Annual Leave, we trust that the Valentine’s and the Moore’s have a great break from ministry. Please be praying for Trace, Glenn, Harry, Sylvie and Millie Valentine and Blake, Alison Jonas, Ruby, Amos & Ezekiel Moore as they enjoy their time away.

Blessings,

Tim

Are You Thinking About Baptism?

Since December last year we have celebrated with 16 people who were baptised. They were publically declaring that Jesus Christ is Lord of their life. It is exciting to see God at work in people’s lives and in the next few weeks we have even more baptisms planned so if you are interested in being baptised or would like to talk more about baptism then please talk to one of the Elders or Ministry Team today.

Target 10:10 July

What is Target 10?

Target 10 is a new event in Ballarat organised by York Street Church of Christ through Peter Bartlett to raise money for overseas hearing clinic projects through the Christian aid agency EARS Incorporated, whilst promoting hearing awareness in the Ballarat community. Target 10 also gives York Street Church of Christ the opportunity to promote its own programs and engage with community and build relationships.

How can you get involved?

  • Can you volunteer to set up a stall next to the Farmer’s market to engage with people and promote Target 10 hearing checks and York Street Church of Christ groups and activities?
  • Can you provide a small Farmers Market tent/canopy (with moveable walls) – approx. 2.5m x 2.5m in size
  • Can you help set up infrastructure, assist with the smooth running of the event, assist runners, supervise two drink & supplies stations on course, cook sausages on a BBQ, or sell food and drink?
  • Can you provide a gas-bottle patio heater to heat marquees and the Boatshed. (Target 10 will pay for gas)
  • Can you loan Target 10 a portable PA system for event announcements and commentary?

For all enquiries on Target 10, please contact Peter Bartlett on 0415 426 594 or at pandrbartlett@yahoo.com

Sons Of Thunder Men’s Retreat

Sons of Thunder is a four-day men’s retreat organised by Ross Morgan and the men at the Mt Clear Church of Christ. The retreat is based upon John Eldredge’s book, Wild at Heart.

The adventure begins on a Friday evening and concludes Monday afternoon at 1pm. The setting is wilderness. The location is Cave Hill Creek, 110 Glut Road, Beaufort, VIC.

Through teaching sessions, films, awesome food, guided periods of reflection and journaling, we invite you into something far more than a Christian camp; come with us on an expedition of the heart.

Welcome Sunday 20 June

What an exciting day to be worshipping at York St Church of Christ. Whether you are a regular or a visitor we trust that you have a great time as you worship with us.

This morning Yorkie Kids will bring the message at the 8:45am service and lead the entire 10:30am service. All throughout this term they have been working through the story of Jonah and today they will be sharing the things they have learnt with us. I thank God for all our children involved in Yorkie Kids and for Trace Valentine and her leadership team. It is refreshing to learn from our children, and may we continue to pray for them as they grow in wisdom and knowledge of God.

Tonight we are also blessed to hear from our SYG (State Youth Games) Team. We will hear stories and how  SYG has impacted our young people’s lives. We congratulate our team for coming 19 out of 72 and for doing their best. Go York St….

One last reminder regarding tomorrows nights 2010 Make it Count live Webcast. I encourage you to be here at 7pm to listen to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Opposition leader Tony Abbott talk to us the Christians of Australia.

Blessings,

Tim

State Youth Games Update

Last weekend around 60 parents, teenagers and leaders participated in the annual Youth Vision State Youth Games in Warragul. Over 3000 people and 70 plus churches gathered together for an incredible time of sport, fun and being challenged with the gospel.

The Yorkie team faired very well taking out some events and finishing in a respectable 19th position. Thanks to everyone who supported our team and we look forward to doing it all again in 2011.

This Sunday night 20 June at 6pm the SYG team will be celebrated as we reflect on last weekend and hear some great stories of what God did throughout the weekend.
